Wirral brewery to sponsor food festival

"A WIRRAL brewery has stepped in to sponsor the borough’s food and drink festival – and will launch its latest beer at the event."

Birkenhead’s new Betwixt Beer Company will mark their sponsorship of this year’s Wirral Food & Drink Festival with the official launch of their cask lager – Storr.

The fledgling craft brewery stepped in as sole sponsor of the beer marquee.

The marquee will showcase beers from six craft brewers around Cheshire and Merseyside alongside Betwixt’s own range, including Storr.

Celebrating Wirral’s Viking history, this is an authentically brewed premium strength lager (4.8%abv).

Earlier this year – after brewing for several years in London and Cheshire – Mike McGuigan joined with former telecoms man Steve Briscoe in a major investment to bring brewing back to Birkenhead following an absence of around 40 years. They have set up in a former Pool Street furniture factory.

Mr Briscoe said: “Although still a very young company, we were delighted to step in with sponsorship when others pulled out. The festival is a terrific not-for-profit event that shows off the very best of Wirral food and drink.”

The festival is held on the Sunday and Monday of bank holiday weekend.
