The names are in for the Craft Guild of Chefs Awards

"The eagerly awaited list of nominees has been announced for the 2011 Craft Guild of Chefs Awards."

Following much deliberation, a judging panel of leading industry representatives has selected 40 chefs who will be feted at the prestigious awards ceremony at the Westminster Park Plaza Hotel on Thursday, June 2.

The theme for the 2011 Craft Guild of Chefs Awards is ‘Bursting with Talent’, aiming to reward leading chefs from across the industry, whether they work in a village pub, fine dining restaurant, city university or in contract catering. They might develop products for national retailers or serve British soldiers.

The nominees for the 2011 Craft Guild of Chefs Awards are as follows:

Two additional awards will be presented on the night. The Special Award, chosen by the committee of the Craft Guild, will go to a person who above all others has made an enormous contribution to the industry.

Also, for the first time, the Craft Guild of Chefs has introduced the People’s Choice Award to recognise one of the industry’s unsung heroes, who has demonstrated real commitment to their job and deserves recognition.

Since the online voting opened for the nominated candidates on April 19, the votes are already in the hundreds. The closing date for votes is Friday, May 13. The seven candidates are:

• David Croft, former chef/volunteer fundraiser
• Vicky Lord, Staffordshire County Council
• Trevor Nelson, retired executive chef, Compass Group
• John Retallick, chairman of the Craft Guild of Chefs Vice Presidents’ Council
• David Sharland, The Seafood Restaurant, Padstow
