Sports nutrition firm gets grant to build new factory
by crainsmanchesterbusiness.co.uk - 11/02/2010
"CNP Professional Ltd, a Tameside-based distributor of sports nutritional products, has received a £126,750 grant to enable it to begin its own manufacturing operation."
CNP, which started in 1998 and employs 16 people, currently sells bought-in products from the USA and UK and counts professional sports people among its customers, including the Blackburn Rovers squad, rugby league player Sean Long and a number of boxers and bodybuilders.
The company, based on the Windmill Trading Estate in Denton is to set up a factory in Hyde which will help it to reduce stock holding levels and add new products such as a ready-to-drink supplement range.
The Northwest Regional Development Agency, said that without the Grant for Business Investment, the project would not go ahead and the business would have created fewer jobs.
Mark Hughes, NWDA executive director of economic development said: “CNP is an ambitious company with the potential to double in size over the next 5 years. With a long term goal to establish a world class production site, the opportunity to significantly increase staff numbers cannot be overlooked.”
Paul Vandrill, finance director of CNP Professional, said the key to its growth plans was creating the food-grade manufacturing facility with help from specialist advisors Integrated Food Projects Ltd.
“Working closely with Nat West and Lombard we were able to raise some of the finance required – but the NWDA GBI grant proved critical in allowing CNP to progress its ideal plan. CNP is proud of its Manchester roots and was delighted to remain in the area, with the benefit of local jobs, local suppliers and a big reduction in imports to the UK,” Vandrill added.
“The new facility will allow us to improve our product offering and service to all our customers in the UK and abroad. The first products are due to roll off the production line in April 2010.”
