SPAR celebrates National Consolidation Scheme’s 3rd anniversary
by bfff.co.uk - 21/10/2011
"In the 3 years since the start of collaboration between SPAR (UK) Limited and Redditch based multi temperature supply chain specialist, Oakland International Limited, the launch of their new delivery scheme has gone from strength to strength."
Specifically designed to provide SPAR wholesalers with increased order fulfilment and improved shelf life on SPAR chilled product, the scheme has also seen significant growth in ambient sales, as well as an extension of the scheme to include growing numbers of new chilled and ambient suppliers who are now able to enjoy the many enhanced benefits the scheme offers.
RDCs (regional distribution centres) can order product for day 1 with day 2 delivery, with agreed suppliers able to deliver product direct in to Oakland’s depot by early afternoon for same day dispatch. SPAR customers benefit through enhanced shelf availability and by greater shelf life on the purchase of those goods.
Paul Ziolek, Operations Director for Oakland International Ltd stated: “We are delighted with the success of the Oakland SPAR scheme partnership. By utilising our consolidation services we have also been able to decrease the amount of deliveries in to each RDC bringing a huge road miles saving whilst continuing to develop Oakland’s service offer.”
Reporting mechanisms include weekly KPIs (key performance indicators) on vehicle utilisation, supplier performance reporting and consolidation centre performance statistics, with Oakland in addition undertaking a daily regime whereby they contact each RDC to report exceptions and supply a daily exceptions report to all SPAR buyers.
Steve Blackmore, Management Information and Supply Chain Director for SPAR (UK) Ltd commented: “A real benefit of our partnership is that we have been able to make changes that result in improvements to the operation in very short timescales.”
From an initial eight suppliers, the scheme is now nationwide with around thirty chilled suppliers signed to the scheme.
