Ready meal firm creates 150 jobs in North East

"A company in Consett specialising in chilled ready meals is to create 150 new jobs."

International Cuisine Ltd, based on the Hownsgill Industrial Park, will start recruiting this month.

The firm said positions to be filled ranged from management to shop floor roles, in all areas of the operation.

It said "rapidly growing demand" had helped create the positions. International Cuisine Limited currently employs 579 staff.
'Very positive'

It is a subsidiary of the Daniels Group and was established in 1988 with 14 employees in a small factory on No.1 Industrial Estate, Consett.

It supplies chilled ready meals for leading supermarket groups and smaller retailers, both in the UK and overseas.

Tom Weldon, site operations director, said: "We are moving from a three-shift, five-day-a-week rota to a 24/7 manufacturing operation, in order to meet demand from existing customers.

"In light of recent events which have seen either downsizing or closure of several companies connected to the food manufacturing industry here in the North East, our situation looks very, very positive and is great news for jobseekers."
