Profits fizz at Scottish drinks company AG Barr, maker of Tizer and Irn-Bru

"Tizer and Irn-Bru maker AG Barr posted a 13pc leap in annual earnings, dodging the rising ingredient costs that caused rival Britvic to issue a profits warning last month."

The Scottish drinks maker admitted the 'challenges of cost inflation' had created headwinds but said it remains positive.

Analysts say savings made in manufacturing and supply will offset the spiralling price hikes in oil and food prices. underlying sales for the group rose by more than 10pc as it delivered pre-tax profits of £31.6m for the year to January 29 up 13pc.

The firm (up 46p to 1201p) proposed a final dividend of 18.66p-a-share taking the total dividend for the year up 10pc to 25.41p.

Chief executive Roger White said it outperformed a 'buoyant' soft drinks market by focusing on core brand Irn-Bru, Scotland's 'national drink'.
