North Yorkshire food manufacturer scoops award
by Anastasia Weiner - 06/08/2009
"A RICHMOND-based food manufacturer has scooped a top industry prize for its twice braised pork shank in a cider and apple sauce."
Holmesterne's pork product, which is sold in Morrisons, beat off stiff competition for the Meat Management Magazine award.
Holmesterne was founded in 1994 by Martine Sterne and Keith Tindell both of whom have extensive experience within the food sector.
The firm is now on track to achieve its targeted turnover of £20m by 2011.
Mr Tindell, who is managing director of the firm, said that pork was affordable quality food.
"Keeping on top of consumer trends is key to our business. People are looking for quality food at an affordable price in a recession," he added.
"By using an overlooked cut of meat and applying clever cooking and development we're creating new products to appeal to a discerning market. Spotting opportunities before they become obvious is a sign of an innovative food business."
Mr Tindell said that the business was busy developing two new products, which would hopefully be on the shelves in the Autumn.
