Michelin-star boost for restaurant jobs in Wales

"Restaurant jobs in Wales have been given a boost by three top-notch eateries being awarded Michelin stars."

The Walnut Tree in Llanddewi Skirrid, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, Tyddyn Llan in Llandrillo, Denbighshire, and Ynyshir Hall in Machynlleth, Powys join The Crown at Whitebrook in Monmouthshire which has retained its star.

Shaun Hill and business partner William Griffiths run The Walnut Tree, with Mr Hill having already been awarded a Michelin star on two previous occasions.

One chef winning his first Michelin star was Tyddyn Llan owner and chef Bryan Webb whose restaurant has previously been named Welsh Restaurant of the Year three times by the Good Food Guide.

Mr Webb said: "I'm totally delighted to have won a Michelin star – it was completely unexpected after the other recent successes – you imagine you cannot have it all."

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay was disappointed to hear that his Claridge's hotel restaurant in Mayfair lost its star in the new guide.
