Jobs secured at pet food retail chain

"A pet food retail chain has been bought in a deal which should secure 153 jobs in 24 stores throughout Scotland."

Rosyth-based Acorn Pet Centres went into administration in September causing the immediate closure of 11 stores with 73 redundancies.

Former managing director, Douglas Mutter, will continue to run the company after the deal.

He said he was delighted to have the chance to grow the business and possibly recruit more staff.

Administrators Tenon Recovery said there had been a great deal of interest in the company, with 40 enquiries and a number of strong bids.

Joint administrator Tom MacLennan commented: "We are delighted to have secured the sale of Acorn Pet Centres and that 153 jobs will be saved as a result of the deal.

"The company was in administration for just 10 weeks, and achieving a sale in a difficult market is an excellent result."
