Hazeldene invests £1.7m in expansion plans

"Salad supplier Hazeldene is to invest £1.7m expanding its factory in a move which will generate 25 jobs, the Wigan firm announced today."

Hazeldene, which supplies retailers including the Co-operative Group, Spar, Iceland, Greggs and Subway with prepared salads, has had a planning application approved to extend its site at Martland Park Industrial Estate.

The work is due to be completed in May.

Managing director Simon Ball said: “Our plans are to expand the factory so that we can install two new production lines, bringing the total number up to 10.”

Hazeldene, which was founded in 1990, currently has 240 staff and posted a turnover of £32m for the year to last April.

Part of the Yorkshire-based William Jackson Food Group, it sources more than 70 per cent of its salad from growers within 20 miles of Wigan during the summer, with the majority imported from Spain during the winter months.
