Greggs cooks up new frozen food range for Iceland stores

"Greggs has found a new way to cram even more sausage rolls into the nation’s mouths."

The bakery chain has developed a range of frozen pastry-wrapped bangers for hungry customers who can’t make it to one of its 1,500 stores.

The Newcastle-based firm, which saw underlying sales rise 0.8 per cent for the 13 weeks to October 1, is selling the products in Iceland stores.

Chief executive Ken McMeikan credited the strong quarter on a range of price promotions and its new ‘Superstar’ doughnuts, which come in Jaffa Cake and strawberry milkshake flavours.

He said: ‘We have received a lot of feedback that customers were finding life tough so we have invested more in promotions and innovation.’
Greggs (up 22.1p to 483.2p) has also seen strong sales of coffee and breakfasts.

McMeikan added that Helen Milligan, this year’s runner-up in The Apprentice, the BBC’s business reality show, is doing ‘fantastically well’ after being promoted to South-East area manager.
