by Paul Burn - 16/03/2011
"Food producers are increasingly looking to offer products online for parcel delivery to establish direct links with their customers, a new survey has shown."
According to the latest figures from research firm IGD, 27 per cent of grocery manufacturers said they would consider implementing their own e-commerce presence in the future.
The study also forecast the value of online grocery shopping to hit £9.9 billion by 2015, double the level recorded at the end of 2010.
Meanwhile, sales online continue to grow faster than in any other sector in the grocery market, recording a surge of 21.4 per cent last year.
Commenting on the figures, IGD chief executive Joanne Denney-Finch said: "The strong growth predicted for the online grocery channel presents an opportunity for companies of all sizes and types - retailers, manufacturers, local producers - to meet the needs of today's multi-channel shopper."
Earlier this week, UK department store John Lewis revealed it generated sales of £538.2 million in 2010 via its website, JL.com
