Food firms to do business

Food firms to do business

"A FAMILY firm is taking its products to a major food industry event for the first time."

Charlottes Real Jersey Ice Cream, which is based in Whitley, Dewsbury, is taking part in the Deliciouslyorkshire Meet the Producer event.

The annual event is a chance for industry buyers to meet producers of some of the best food in the North of England.

Audrey Wraithmell, who runs Charlottes with her husband Geoffrey and daughter Charlotte, said the company was considering selling its products wholesale.

The event at York Racecourse on April 6 will give the family the chance to meet buyers who might be interested in selling their products.

They hope this might take some of the pressure off running the business day-to-day.

Mrs Wraithmell said: “We used to do a lot of shows, but we are getting older and you can’t do the getting up at 4am and going to bed at midnight and getting up at 4am again.”

But Mrs Wraithmell explained that finding wholesale buyers was not vital for the firm.

She said: “If it doesn’t go with a band, we’re not desperate.

“If we find another dozen customers, that’s great, because the few that we have got are good an are loyal to us.”

Another Dewsbury firm, Curry Cuisine, will taking its range of pickles and chutneys to the Deliciouslyorkshire event.

Operations director Paresh Tejura said: “This is a really good opportunity for small businesses to go there and showcase what they can do.

“You don’t necessarily get a chance to meet your current stockists so it’s a good chance to speak to them too.”
