Finnebrogue food company finds favour with supermarket chains

"A Co Down food company is creating at least 15 additional jobs thanks to new contracts with supermarket multiples.

Finnebrogue, which makes pork and venison products, said expanding its business with Tesco and Waitrose would boost turnover by £6m and take its workforce to 47.

It recently invested in technologically advanced systems with support from Ulster Bank and secured a listing in 200 Tesco stores for the Rankin brand of sausages.

Finnebrogue also launched a new ethical brand of sausages called Good Little Company and supplies UK Waitrose stores.

A spokesman said the new business would boost turnover from £4.5m to around £10.5m. It has taken on 15 new staff as a result |of the expansion and expects to take on more in 2010.

Rory Clarke, Ulster Bank relationship manager, said: “Finnebrogue is a highly innovative company and the very significant increase in its business is testament to the high quality of its people and its produce.

“The investment we have supported is enabling Finnebrogue to immediately increase its workforce to 47, with further jobs in 2010.”

Finnebrogue is an award-winning producer of venison and pork, based at Finnebrogue Estate near Downpatrick. It was founded in 1997 by Denis and Christine Lynn, farmer of free-range red deer on the estate.

The company also recently announced it had secured a contract for the exclusive supply of all of Marks & Spencer’s highest quality sausages in the UK.
