Finea food company takes gold at Great Taste Awards

Finea food company takes gold at Great Taste Awards

"Mr. Crumb, the multi-award-winning company and well-known Irish brand of breadcrumbs, stuffings and puddings, has added another Gold Great Taste Award to its long list of achievements, this time for its organic sage and onion stuffing."

Based in the village of Finea, the company is family owned and employs 60 people at its production facility on the shores of Lough Sheelin.

Jason Coyle told The Anglo-Celt this week that Mr. Crumb's point of difference is that its products are pre-cooked by a team of chefs using fresh and natural ingredients.

"Whereas most companies try to fully automate their processes, Mr. Crumb has gone the opposite way and has people involved in every aspect of the process so that its products are made just like you would at home," he explained.

The Great Taste Awards from the Guild of Fine Food in the UK are the acknowledged benchmark for speciality food and drink. A gold award is recognised as the definitive independent accreditation of quality. In 2009, 4,873 products in total from across the UK and Ireland were entered.

The Great Taste Awards are widely acknowledged as the Oscars of the food world. Everything is blind-tasted by at least three separate teams of experts. This year's judges included food critics from leading publications as well as Michelin Star chefs and supermarket buyers.

Mr. Crumb's award winning product was its organic sage and onion stuffing. It is cooked in small batches by slowly sautéing fresh onions in real butter before adding herbs such as sage, thyme and parsley and finally blending this with breadcrumb made using fresh bread from a local artisan bakery.

The product is certified by IOFGA (Irish Organic Farmers and Growers Association) and is free from hydrogenated fats, artificial flavours and artificial colours.

The stuffing is available in SuperValu, Tesco, Superquinn and all leading independent retailers, while Mr. Crumb also makes organic stuffing and breadcrumbs for the Dunnes Stores brand.

Mr. Crumb's organic stuffing is also suitable for vegetarians and, as it's already cooked, it only needs to be reheated for two minutes in the microwave.

Mr. Coyle says they have now commenced a range of party food and food to go.
