Down the cakehole: the new ready meal
by Victoria Stewart - 01/06/2011
"Coming home to a plate of food cooked by a Michelin-starred chef is what we'd all like every night. "
Sadly most of us can only dream of such luxury.
But a pair of London entrepreneurs, Phil Pinnell and Alex Neves, believe they have come up with the cheap solution: instant meals you can make from scratch, just by pulling apart packets of fresh ingredients and putting them in a pan.
The pair, both in their twenties, put together some recipes, tried them out in Whitecross Street market and then wangled some help from Michel Roux Snr to add the finishing touches. The result is four meals that take between eight and 14 minutes to make: a Moroccan chicken tagine, a juicy lamb provençal, tangy Malaysian king prawn noodles and a slightly overspiced chicken and chorizo jambalaya. (£4.99 from Sainsbury's, meals mealsfromscratch.co.uk .
