Devro, the Scottish sausage-skin maker, has revealed sizzling second-half sales thanks to strong exports and the success of its new cost-effective synthetic sheep-gut product in Asia.

Shares in the Lanarkshire-based company, which employs around 480 workers in its manufacturing plants in Bellshill and Moodiesburn, near Glasgow, climbed almost 1.2%, or 3p, to 254.5p, giving it a stock market worth of around £415 million.

City broker Peel Hunt upgraded Devro from a hold to a buy, but kept its target price unchanged at 280p.
