Deli food firm creates 12 jobs in expansion drive

Deli food firm creates 12 jobs in expansion drive

"A new food company in Randalstown is creating 12 new jobs and investing nearly £300,000 to target a lucrative Irish market. "

Paul McKee of Crosskeys Meats is investing £291,000 to develop the new Crosskeys Fine Foods company and enter the lucrative high-end convenience meal market in the Republic of Ireland.

Invest NI has offered assistance of £31,000 for product development and marketing. The company will manufacture a range of stir fry and marinade products at premises in Craigstown Industrial Estate in Randalstown and plans to create 12 new jobs over the next two years.

Mr McKee said the Northern Ireland deli foods market was worth around £283m and he planned to begin building the new business locally, aiming to begin selling in the Republic by 2013.

He said: "The decision to start the new company was influenced significantly by requests from customers of my existing business for interesting and tasty products.

"The trend towards premium convenience foods is clearly being driven by the recession. While consumers tend to be eating out less, they are increasingly seeking quality and tasty foods they can make easily at home.

Maynard Mawhinney, Invest NI food director, said: "Our support has been shaped to assist Crosskeys to focus on adding value to the extensive range of meat products that it has developed over many years, and then to target opportunities in the Republic of Ireland."
