Deeside frozen food giant raises £1m for Alzheimer’s Research UK

"STAFF and customers at Deeside-based Iceland Foods are celebrating raising £1m for Alzheimer’s Research UK."
In May company founder Malcolm Walker, 65, and his 30-year-old son Richard climbed Mount Everest and reached the 23,000ft-high North Col camp to raise funds.
Then in August 22,000 staff across 750 UK stores took on their own challenges during a national charity week.
Staff took part in darts and football tournaments, music nights, pirate-themed parties and climbed Snowdon.
Customers also donated to help the company reach its target.
Mr Walker said: “I am immensely proud of the inventiveness and commitment that Iceland’s people have shown in raising the amazing total of more than a million pounds for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
“This terrible disease has directly affected the families of so many of our staff and customers throughout the country, and they have responded magnificently to the challenge of raising funds to assist the search for a cure.”
Alzheimer’s Research UK chief executive Rebecca Wood said: “Our relationship with Iceland so far has been a whirlwind in which we’ve seen Everest conquered, 22,000 motivated staff fundraising for our research and more than a million pounds donated.
“Iceland’s incredible efforts will take us a long way toward defeating dementia.”
