DBC Foodservice signs Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council contract

DBC Foodservice signs Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council contract

"DBC Foodservice has won a two-year contract with Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council, to supply food and drink to over 70 schools as well as a number of social units in the North West including care homes and leisure centres. "

The contract is worth in excess of £750k and has an option to extend by a further two years in 2012.

This is the first Local Education Authority (LEA) contract DBC has been awarded under the Scottish Northern Universities Purchasing Initiative (SNUPI) terms. SNUPI ensures its members such as Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council receive the most competitive pricing schemes available and that all products are school compliant in terms of nutritional requirements.

DBC already has a long-standing partnership with SNUPI, supplying numerous universities and colleges for the last 10 years, however winning the first LEA contract under the SNUPI terms means that DBC is in a stronger position to be awarded further LEA contracts through the scheme.

Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council has chosen to source a wide range of multi-temperature products from the grocery, chilled and meats categories from DBC, which reflects the Council’s strong green credentials and desire to reduce its food miles by combining deliveries. All orders placed by the Council will be served by DBC’s Manchester branch.

Chris Horne, managing director of DBC, says: “We are delighted to win our first LEA contract under the SNUPI terms, which is a big landmark for DBC. By helping Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council combine orders and deliveries, we are able to reduce significantly the Council’s impact on the environment. Improving efficiency and condensing food miles is increasingly becoming a top priority for councils across the country.”

Colin Upton, school meals and catering services manager, from Sefton Borough Council, says: “We have been very impressed that DBC Foodservice was able to provide us with a wide range of quality multi-temperature products in such a short amount of time.”

DBC is a privately owned delivered food wholesale business which sells to all sectors of the catering industry such as independent restaurants, hotels, private schools, local authorities, healthcare, the MoD worldwide food supply and high street restaurant chains. The company serves caterers with over 8,000 multi-temperature products, turning over in excess of £270m.

With 14 regional branches throughout the UK, DBC is able to adopt the approach of a local supplier, offering bespoke solutions for customers and short communication lines, while using its national infrastructure to source an extensive range of quality products.
