Cranstons to open expanded Penrith food hall

Cranstons to open expanded Penrith food hall

"CUMBRIAN food company Cranstons’ expanded Penrith food hall is set to open in October, bringing with it up to 20 new jobs for the town."

The store, in Ullswater Road, is pencilled in to open at the end of October after a £1m plus expansion, providing 40 per cent more floor space.

And the expansion could provide around 20 new jobs, including 15 in a new café – called Oswald’s at Cranstons – which is being built in the upstairs of the new area. Cranstons managing director Philip Cranston said: “It’s extra jobs, but there’s a spin-off effect because we sell predominantly local produce so there is money going back into the local area that way. We have had a lot of positive comments about the way it’s taking shape.

“There’s a lot of interest being shown which gives us a bit of quiet confidence.”

The expansion means another 3000 square feet of floor space, which as well as bringing the new café to Cranstons, allows them to sell local fish for the first time, as well as giving more space to existing products.

Mr Cranston added: “We are providing a different service. We have got a lot of strengths, particularly in our meat.

“There’s a lot happening in Penrith at the moment, but at the end of the day you have to focus on your own business and its core strengths, make a decision on the demand, and if you are confident then go for it.

“We will have fresh fish, which is new, but mainly we will be giving better coverage of local produce and there will be a cafe to do anything from tea and scones to main meals throughout the day Monday to Saturday.”
