Baxters Food Group Optimises Best Practice And Boosts Profits Thanks To Domino’s M-Series Print And Apply Labelling System

"Baxters Food Group is renowned across the UK for its wide range of delicious soups, preserves and condiments.
"

When its old print and apply labelling system at its Colchester plant was ready for an upgrade, Domino proved to be the perfect fit.

Toby Ford, maintenance engineer at Baxters, explains why: “Over the last four years I have had a lot of positive experience with Domino as an organisation – we already use the A-Series continuous inkjet printer. As they have always been very professional, helpful and efficient, I was keen to see what the M-Series could offer.”

The M-Series offers a fully modular solution to meet the many and varying needs of manufacturers by delivering accurate information and label placement without compromising production line speeds – therefore ensuring maximum productivity, flexibility and profitability.

“The workload at our plant can vary as many of the products such as salad dressings and mayonnaise are seasonal. This means that for some shifts we will produce one product and on another we will manufacture up to half a dozen of various sizes. As a result, we need to have maximum uptime in order to meet our deadlines, and Domino’s M-Series print and apply labelling system proved to be the perfect solution for us for printing labels for application to shrinkwrapped trays.”

Domino introduced the M-Series in 2007 as part of its strategy to deliver flexible end-to-end coding solutions. The M-Series offers a fully modular solution to meet the many and varying needs of manufacturers by delivering accurate information and label placement without compromising production line speeds – therefore ensuring maximum productivity, flexibility and profitability.

“The Domino print and apply labelling system was delivered earlier than scheduled and was seamlessly integrated into one of our main production lines,” continues Toby. “The simple ribbon and label paths of the M-Series enable us fast changeover of consumables, and in addition the electronic height adjustment allows for different size products coming down the line. This helps us to greatly reduce any downtime.

“The Domino M-Series is 100% more reliable than its predecessor’ says Toby. “For me, it sets the standard for print and apply, as does Domino itself. The training we received was very helpful as we can rectify any problems ourselves. We rarely contact the free Domino help desk but when we do, any issues are quickly resolved over the phone. If an engineer does visit, Domino even provides us with an electronic copy of their worksheet and regular email updates of progress. This is very reassuring and makes it a pleasure doing business with Domino.”
